StackDrift vs TuxCare
TuxCare sells extended security patches for software that is already past end of life. Both of these answer the same problem, which is software on your machines going out of support. The difference worth choosing on is where the list of what you run comes from. TuxCare works from a list you enter and keep current by hand. StackDrift has a command line tool that discovers what is actually installed on the machine.
What TuxCare does well
- Sells extended security patches for software that has already passed end of life.
- That is a genuinely different answer to the same problem, because the software keeps receiving security fixes instead of having to be moved.
- For a release that cannot be upgraded on the timetable you have, it answers something nothing else on this page does.
Where StackDrift differs
- TuxCare answers what to do about a release that is already out of support. StackDrift answers which of your machines are heading there, and when.
- StackDrift has a command line tool that discovers what is actually installed on the machine. It patches nothing, and it is no substitute for extended support on a release you cannot move off.
What each one costs
- TuxCare
- Commercial. Pricing is on their own site.
- StackDrift
- No free tier. A 14 day trial, and it takes a card.
Worth being straight about that trade, because it is the first thing anyone checks. Several of the products these pages compare us with are free or have a free tier, and StackDrift has neither. If a date and a reminder is all you need, you can have both for nothing, and this page is not going to pretend otherwise.
Which one you want
These two sit at opposite ends of the same problem, and buying one does not answer the other. TuxCare keeps an unmovable release patched, while StackDrift tells you which releases are about to become that problem.

The part a comparison table cannot answer for you
Every product on this page, StackDrift included, is only ever as right as the list of what you run. StackDrift scans your machines and works that list out for you, across every runtime, operating system and kernel underneath your code, then mails you before the next support window closes or a CVE lands on a build you have deployed.
A card is needed to open the trial and nothing is charged until it ends.
